We are near a tipping point.
At Hotbox, it is our belief that cannabis prohibition will end within the next decade—perhaps within the next four years. This will result in a massive reorganization of the consumer goods market to make way for the emergence of the single largest new subculture in decades. It doesn't matter if you sell custom glass bongs and rolling papers or high-end watches and cologne; this is a market you want to lead in.
Consider that cannabis users make up—by a wide margin—the majority of illicit narcotics users. The criminalization of paraphernalia in North America has greatly reduced the scope of business and created a very tightly-woven captive market. Further, this is a demographic that has money to spend on more than just weed. Consider that cannabis consumers are willing to pay upwards of $600 for a Volcano vaporizer or an elaborate custom piece of glassware; no other drug subculture spends as much money on related products as cannabis users. The growth that legalization will cause in these industries is unfathomable. If you think the alcohol industry is big, wait until you see the one that results from cannabis.
Where does this put you, somebody who wants to make more people aware of your business?
Well, one thing you could do is advertise with a small and culturally-savvy media group—like Hotbox Magazine. Our goal is to bring cannabis sub-culture to the mainstream and to bring cannabis consumers a periodical that finally recognizes them for what they are: a massive burgeoning consumer market consisting of some of the most diverse and intelligent people on the planet. Cannabis consumers have had to deal with substandard writing, uninteresting commentary, mediocre editing and awful photography for decades. We intend to become the media our community deserves.
