women in media profession

Posted by Daniela Ileana in women , story , profession , news , men , media , law , journalist , discrimination

Daniela Ileana

Do you know the struggles of women being a journalist or being in the media. Women were restricted before by custom and law from access in journalism occupations. But as years past women were began agitating for the right to work in media. Being a journalist is not an easy job. It is hard and life-threatening work.

In order to report a very good and detailed news, journalist needs to do research papers, interviews, studies and investigations of a certain story. Besides covering organizations and institutions such as government and business, journalist also covers cultural aspects of society such as arts and entertainment. It may be local, international or world news as long as it involves the citizenry. Their job is to inform the people.

Imagine how the women journalist struggles in covering a war story or news. It's not new anymore that media networks allows women journalist to go and report about different wars or disasters happening worldwide. As long as there's a news journalist are on the go. There is a discrimination between men and women journalists when it comes in reporting and covering stories but why does in journalists killings there is none.

Drug rehab centers in Alberta (marijuana)

Posted by Keith Fagin in Untagged

"Alberta's Ongoing Drug Problems
The province of Alberta has been battling continuous drug problems that are mainly all fueled from the many gang problems that the province is also dealing with.  The province Justice Minister indicated that the addicts that are using everything from pot to crack play a major role of the gang problems and are not part of the solution. Alberta has been taking measures to stiffen it legislation and drug laws, and for example plans to not take a loose look at marijuana, because many have criticized that marijuana should be legal.  The province has started no official talks about going easy on weed.  In Alberta there are 54 different gangs operating, who all form to make money off of the illegal drug trade, mainly cocaine.  In Calgary there are more than twelve dozen unsolved gang related crimes and even more drive by shootings.  The majority of these crimes are drug related and this affects many innocents. Alberta spends 95% of its gang funding on policing and corrections, rather than early intervention."

http://www.drugrehab.ca/alberta/calgary.html
"Marijuana Addiction in Calgary
Marijuana is a very popular drug in Calgary as it is very cheap and easy to come by.  There are many false assumptions when it comes to marijuana. Although there are some medicinal values related to marijuana consumption, people often forget about the addictive nature of marijuana. Although it isn't as bad as some of the stronger drugs, people can still develop a psychological addiction to marijuana.

Furthermore, marijuana producers and dealers often deal in very big amounts of marijuana. For example, two homes in the beginning of 2009 were searched and the people were charged with marijuana production with intent to sell. The police force found more than a thousand pot plants in each houses, for a total value of around 3.5 million dollars. And many other cannabis busts are often between a million and two million dollars in pot plants. So this shows just how available marijuana is in Calgary. The police report that each year, they find and condemn around 100 marijuana growing operations."

Hey, Keith...

Randomly dropping quotes from rehab websites and bolding the worst parts is a very excellent way to create confusion and excite paranoia. Could you please provide some context to this? I'm guessing -- since the quotes are provided by a "rehab" group -- that it's a bunch of profit-motivated bullshit, but somebody casually browsing the site might be genuinely confused.

I actually heard about this post first from my parents, who are now worried I'm going to get shot in a drug-related drive-by shooting...

Fucked up things: Neo Genesis Evangelion

Posted by M.D. Shorter in Untagged

M.D. Shorter

Fuck you show! What are you doing to me show? This is for children? What the fuck! Where are the robots, show? God damn it!

Neo Genesis Evangelion isn't so much a TV series as a mind rape you subject yourself to for several hours on end. You scream at it. You hate it for what it's done to you. You hate it for what it's done to Japanese children. You really want to hug them.

I still think I should design a Sunday School curriculum for Baptist churches in the American midwest advocating NGE as a Japanese cartoon retelling of the book of Genesis. Thing's fucking confusing enough that it would probably take 'em awhile to figure it out...

The Drug League Table

Posted by M.D. Shorter in politics , mdma , marijuana , long-term health effects of ecstasy , legalization , laws , health , government report , ecstasy , drugs , clubs , cannabis , alcohol , addiction

M.D. Shorter

This has been making the rounds on my Facebook feed and it definitely deserved to be posted here. In the U.K., the country's top advisor on drugs was recently fired for criticizing the country's drug laws. Basically, he was saying that drug policy should reflect the actual harmfulness of the drugs they police, as measured by the handy table in the article.

The table ranks 20 substances by a rating assigned by researches based on harmfulness to society and physical being and the risk of addictiveness. Heroin is first, alcohol fifth, weed 11th, ecstasy third from the bottom and LSD 14th. Of course, this reflects what a lot of researchers have been saying about some of the drugs on the list for years, and maybe isn't that much of new information.

Perhaps most interesting to me, mostly because I just wrote a blog post about it, and because I'm starting to become more interested in the implications of the drug and dance culture, is the ranking given to ecstasy. I'm thinking that ranking, at first glance, seems a little low. Chemically, ecstasy is definitely not addictive. But behaviourally, it's definitely more addictive, and more potentially damaging than weed. That being said, the list reflects an interesting dynamic that I've been thinking a lot about: if you're going to be using (or abusing) a substance to have a good time in a dance environment, which is worse for? Ecstasy or alcohol?

Fucked up video: "Crabcore", Attack Attack - Stick Stickly

Just when you thought autotuned music couldn't possibly get any worse.

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this video

Attack Attack is basically Alexisonfire, except with the "hardcore" parts dirtier and harder to understand and the singing parts autotuned. You'll want to watch to the 2:46 mark or so for the inexplicable J-popish keyboard breakdown.

The trancey keyboard breakdown at 2:46 is actually the best part of the song. If they would have started with that and kept it going for four minutes, they might actually have had something. Instead, I feel somewhat akin to the girl in the video, inexplicably in the middle of nowhere and listening to this "gaaawdaaawfel racket."

I should go to Denny's and try to apply for a Senior's Discount Card; I suddenly feel that old.

Seriously, though. This shit is great.

Tommy Chong - Calgary Shades reunion

Posted by Keith Fagin in Untagged

Keith Fagin

Tommy Chong - Calgary Shades
Sunday, December 6th, 2009
Tickets are available at The Ranchman's Cookhouse
http://www.calgaryshades.com/

In the 1950's, Tommy Chong, stoner comedian, and Tommie Melton, began one heck of a band and called it the Calgary Shades.

They achieved some serious clout by the late 50s. Truth be told, there were always raucous crowds at their performances and, of course, a lot of trouble.

At some point along the line Calgary's mayor Donald Mackay suggested the Calgary Shades leave town? and the rest is history.

More than four decades later Tommy Chong, Tommie Melton, Dick Byrd, Stan Chong, Wes Henderson and Floyd Sneed gather to have a rare reunion show.

Anarchist-millionaire

Posted by M.D. Shorter in Untagged

M.D. Shorter

In a book I'm reading, I read those two words together and then decided that was possibly the best title you could ever take to the grave. Anarchist-millionaire.

They were attached to the name "John Gilmore" and he was egging on Jon Postel to transfer the root authority from under the U.S. government's control to Postel's.

Gilmore made his money from being the fifth employee of Sun Microsystems and used it to help out free software, GNU and sue the FAA and department of justice.
