Back for their victory lap tour after the hugely successful Dear Science album, Brooklyn post punk darlings TV on the Radio treated fans to a energetic and soulful show at the University of Calgary’s Macewan Hall May 28. At times it was manic, there was punk energy, it was brooding and dark and epically hopeful. Other times it was slow and swelling, psychedelically electronic. If it wasn’t saxophonist Stuart Bogie funking out with his just-about-over-the-top energy, or the merrily hairy Kyp Malone providing soulful melodies on Red Dress, then it was Tunde Adebimpe’s larger-than-life presence at centre stage that brought the whole band together. His frenetic hand claps and clean, crisp delivery proved to the energetic crowd that TV on the Radio is not last year’s news. TV on the Radio is a must-see in 2009, and hopefully years to come.
