HowTo: Commenting System Usage and Guidelines

bong shopToday marks the introduction of the brand-spanking new commenting system to this site. This will enable people to comment on individual articles and generate discussion, with the intent to hopefully use the better comments to drive new articles.

This means that users who leave awesome, insightful comments will get perks such as extended subscriptions to the gallery and a happy little icon next to their username to show they're a regular contributor. Better comment contributors will be asked by editorial staff to write articles for us.

All registered members can comment on articles. It's pretty self-explanatory; after the article is a form that you fill out to leave a comment. The system is all threaded, such as is seen on Slashdot. This means it's slightly more complex than normal and thus needs some guidelines:

  • If you're responding to other comments, don't start a new thread. Instead, click Reply next to the post in question.
  • Please strive for at least some sort of grammatical cohesion.
  • Before you post, go to Nizkor's Logical Fallacies section. Read through those and ask yourself, "Am I perpetuating a logical fallacy by posting this?". Comments with major logical fallacies will be sanctioned by moderators.
  • Never attack people through comments; instead, attack their ideas.
  • Try to keep the use of smilies to a minimum. We used a monochrome set for a reason—smilies are old, dated, and kinda obnoxious.
  • Of course, that last one will probably get ignored and when that time comes I'll end up posting an absolutely insane set of smilies to counterbalance it. You've been warned.
  • This site makes the tacit assumption that cannabis is not an inherently evil thing. People are allowed to post otherwise but realize that you're on our turf now and anything you say against cannabis will be argued vehemently.
  • Speaking of trolls, users are encouraged to make full use of the voting tools attached to comments. Click + next to good comments to give them a higher rating than bad comments, which you can denote by clicking the -. Please don't abuse these; if you're going around clicking the negative icon next to every single post, we will notice and may suspend your account.
  • Profanity is allowed. This is an adult website, we expect our readers to have at least somewhat-thick skin. That said, don't overdo it.
  • Bannable offenses are:
    • Posting or discussing child pornography
      • This may also include legal action on our behalf if ever this does occur. Offenders will also be reported to local authorities.
      • Don't fucking do it.
    • Spamming of any variety
      • Blatant Self Promotion (BSP) is fine, so long as it's relevant to the thing being commented on and is denoted as such. Don't pretend to be a happy customer—we will see right through it.
    • Harassing, stalking, or otherwise being a nuisance towards any of the models.
      • We absolutely need to have a safe and secure environment for our talent.
  • Suspendable offenses are:
    • Soliciting drugs
      • Come on, the comments are an open channel that you can't delete afterwards. Requesting drugs online is a fast way to get put in jail.
    • Being overly crude
      • If more than 50% of your posts receive a negative rating, you may be asked to reevaluate how you're approaching the system. Our community is inherently progressive; we're not Maxim, realize that pure unadulterated machismo won't get you anywhere here.
    • Posting private information
      • Again: it's the Internet. Be careful of who you give personal information to. Posting that of others is considerably worse.
  • Users are allowed to be suspended up to four times before they are banned.
  • Moderators are Chip, Andi, Xander and myself. If your account is suspended (or banned) and you believe this was in error, please contact head moderator This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Beyond that, the comments are totally free-for-all and we hope you'll use them as such.
